Poole Yacht Club Slow Handicap
The handicap fleet is based around all sailors, and abilities.
There is a huge variety of boats available and not everyone at Poole Yacht Club wish to sail a fleet hosted by the club.
So for those who wish to sail boats outside of the Club's fleets, the Handicap Fleet exists.
We welcome young and old, entry level to world champions. We have a few national sailors, a European champion and some advancing from last years adult learners group wishing to partake in regular racing.We are approachable and all help with slipway etiquette and launching each other.
The handicap system is run under a py rating click here for a listings of numbers to assist in finding your rating.if you boat is not here don’t panic we also run personal handicaps so every member get the chance of a prize.
Racing is regular but some of us meet to sail other days or evenings where tide and weather suits. We have good friendly attitudes and would love to see new members for sailing, cruising and socials. We all have a varied experience and not answer is left un-answered with our strong in depth knowledge on and of the water. Many members also help within the adult and junior training events so you will see some usual faces and suspects.
The Slow Handicap Class
During the summer months we race Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays with events most weekends for class members to attend or assist in helping and learning where to go next.
Winter we sail Saturdays until the new year and socials during January – march including sailing talks and get together’s. – We are blessed with outstanding sailing waters for all year and all tides sailing!
- We welcome racers, cruisers and those who like to race and cruise! - large dinghy park with a ramp and beach for safe launch and recovery. - a good selection of club boats for training or to hire, which we would welcome for handicap racing
Slow Handicap Specification
Handicap Dinghy Racing at Poole Yacht Club is done under the Portsmouth Yardstick system.
We race in three banded groups, fast, medium and slow.
Asymmetric and Foiling Handicap Dinghies (Class 9)
Boats with a PY number 1000 and below are part of the Asymmetric and Foiling Handicap group.
Fast (Class F)
Boats with a PY number between 1001 to 1024 inc. are part of the fast group.
Medium (Class E)
Boats with a PY number between 1025 to 1200 inc. are part of the medium group.
Slow (Class T)
Boats with a PY number above 1201 are part of the slow group.
