Winter Talk: The Building of the Amelie Rose

The Building of the Amelie Rose - A Journey from City Streets to the Open Seas

On the 23rd April 2009 Nick Beck and Melisa Collett, IT specialists in the City of London, departed the capital to start a new life in Dorset. A day later, 300 miles away in Gweek, Cornwall, they watched the manifestation of their dream, a 44 foot wooden sailing cutter called Amelie Rose, take to the water for the very first time. The story of what makes two sane and successful people build a 24 ton traditional Pilot Cutter, and of what happens next, makes for an entertaining, inspiring and often thought provoking examination of a life-style change that appeals to many but which few have the courage to seize.
