The Club's domain was registered back in 1999. Since then we have been through many versions which has been led by the technology at the time. Here is a historic record of these versions:
http://version1.thepooleyachtclub.co.uk/ 1999 – 2006 (Graham Baraclough)
http://www.pooleyc.com/ 2006 – 2012 (Graham Baraclough & Mark Tillotson)
Who knows what the next 6 years for this latest version will bring. What we do know is that the latest version is led by the Technology Committee chaired by Graham Baraclough. This is a working committee setup with the brief to manage the technology at the Club, reporting to the General Management Committee, plus to provide an open dialogue between members and Club.
The new changes are fairly extensive with many additions to provide coherency for users and contributors alike. Below is an attempt to document this new development.
Technical Structure
This Web site uses Joomla which is an open source content management system. We decided to go down the open source route to make it as future proof as possible. No longer are the scripts that run the Web site the working knowledge of just the developer that created them. Joomla uses a widely documented logic. This enables the development of the Web site to be relayed to another developer should the need arise. We can also open up the development of the Web site to other members of the Club who have knowledge of Joomla and wish to volunteer their time.
Content & Design Refresh
There was a growing need to properly structure and refresh the content. This has been done with the Help of John Withers, the Technology Committee members and volunteer web authors.
